We started the day with a hearty buffet breakfast at the hotel. We both had wayyyy more bacon than we would usually serve ourselves; as well as seconds of French Toast!
The walk to Disneyland Park from the hotel was less than 10 minutes so we managed to get there just ahead of the park opening at 9:00 AM. Our strategy for the morning was to hit as many of the popular rides as possible before it got super busy. We quickly ticked off the Indiana Jones ride, Splash Mountain, and the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. After those three rides, it was clear that the number of visitors was increasing exponentially by 10AM. We headed over to the Tomorrowland section of the park and utilized the 'fastpass' system for a couple of the rides there. There were a lot of Star Wars themed rides/experiences that actually made us kind of want to re-watch the films!
Once we had done all the thrill rides, we could take it a bit easier so we just cruised around, joining the line for the rides that looked interesting. Unsurprisingly, Matt had eyed up the Matterhorn bobsled ride pretty early on, and Van insisted we do the swirling teacups ride! The first food purchase of the day was a giant Turkey leg from the Edelweiss food cart - Matt was very happy as he had previously thought he would have to wait until the Toronto christmas markets to get one!
After lunch, we went on the "It's a Small World" ride. With 15 minutes of the same song/tune, this song ended up being stuck in our heads for the rest of the day! For the rest of the arvo, we roamed around Toontown and hit up a few of the rides around the Fantasyland area before heading to the afternoon parade. It was more of a production than your typical city parade, with everything choreographed and managed to a T.
The next few rides we did, mainly in Fantasyland, at that time of day were all 30+ minute waits for 1-3 minute rides haha. All of them were really awesome and worth the wait though :) For dinner, it was a turkey leg to share again, then after a short break, we grabbed some fries and chicken nuggets over in Fronteirland. By the time we got to Main Street for the 'Paint the Nite' light show, it was chocca full of people and we had to be a bit inventive to get a spot to stand and watch the second parade of the day.
Ten minutes after the parade finished, the Fireworks display "Disneyland Forever" started. Definitely one of the best fireworks displays we've seen - and the first one timed with Disney favourite songs :) The fake snow while the Frozen song was playing was pretty neat too!
By the time the display finished, we had been at Disneyland for over 13 fun-filled hours!
We bid Disneyland adieu and crashed out pretty quickly once we got back to the hotel!
