Tuesday 29 January - Up at 5.45am as planned to be on the road by 6.30. Arrived in Creektown around 7.50am, but by the time we sorted out our rentals and lift tickets it was 9.20 when we were riding the first gondola up. Met up with Tim and Tamsin on the Whistler side and skied mainly blue runs for the day, one accidental black where everyone on the chairlift got to watch Van battling down a narrow steep mogul path. Did a lot of the Harmony and Symphony runs which were really good. Did our food shopping in Pemberton and had some issues finding the accommodation but got there in the end. Had a nice little cottage in Mt Currie, which was a good space, and don’t forget to not wear shoes inside. Carbonara for dinner!
Wednesday 30 January – Early start at 6.30 and on the road by 7.25 to get the first lift up. Spent the day on Blackbomb which was also obviously awesome! The Glacier Bowl and Gladed Black runs in particular were a lot of fun. Van indulged in a hot chocolate break while Matt, Tim and Tamsin did some black runs and we finished off the day with Pruned Paradise through the trees. Required some tight turns so everyone had a couple of tumbles on that run! Met up with David and Stacey at Merlins for a couple of beers and then headed back out to Pemberton for a roast chicken and couscous dinner. Couscous is amazing! Will be coming along with us for all adventure trips going forward. So easy to make!
Thursday 31 January – Another early start for the last day of the year and we spent the day on Whistler side. Another great day of skiing and Tim needed to take off a bit early to get his SIN from Squamish. We did Peak-to-Creek a couple of times which was a really long run that took us over 30 minutes each time. Wicked times! Ended the day at Dusty’s for a couple of beers and burgers before heading over to Steve’s to bring in the New Year.
Friday 1 January – Matt went a bit crazy on New Years with Steve and so was looking pretty sorry for himself on Friday. Spent the day in bed and hugging the toilet, while Van, Tim and Tamsin exercised some self-control and had a big day on Whistler and Blackcomb. Took the Peak-to-Peak gondola to get in between the ski fields. Check-in to the Westin was ridiculous, took an hour with a huge queue and this didn’t go down well with Matt who was not in good shape. Had dinner in Whistler at a Mexican place which was reasonable and tasty and finished with dessert at Cow’s Ice Cream.
Saturday 2 January – Had a relaxed day in Whistler today. Had breakfast at the Pure Bread bakery (sooo good!), coffee at the local (also very nice) and then went for a walk for a few hours to build up an appetite for a pie for lunch. Yum! Drove back to Vancouver and then bussed and trained out to the airport hotel for an early start tomorrow morning for our flight back to Toronto. GREAT HOLIDAY!
