Hello! this is the first bit of writing about our trip to Europe! Most people do a blog if they go away for months and months. Since i may never do that, i though this 2 week travelling holiday was a good start!
Hannah and I are in Bucharest, Romania. Its 2 hours ahead of England. it seems like a nice city so far with lots of shops and restaurants and some nice people (although we're very obviously foreign so do get some looks, especially from middle aged/elderly women).
The place we're staying in is called Studio Amzei. Its right in the heart of the city and surrounded by coffee shops, restaurants, supermarkets and the odd strip club! haha. theres nothing seedy about it though, theyre just randomly scattered throughout the city. Its quite frankly the strangest place. Uber safe and the people are lovely but instead of the hostel i was expecting, its more of a flat. Sounds grand but actually its about as big as a bathroom in England! Its 5 floors up in a lift whose floor is made of MDF and occasionally stops midfloor rather than the level youve pressed for!! The bed is a sofabed and rather lumpy and the bathroom is a wetroom (which adds a bit of excitement when trying to use the loo in the night when the whole place is still wet from the shower earlier!). I like its quirkiness!
Today we went to the People's Palace. Its the old headquaters of communist dictator Nicolae Ceausescu and even more excitingly is where topgear filmed recently (they drove lamborghinis and ferraris through the tunnels underneath the palace)! It's massive and very imposing as youd expect. we wanted to go in but its uber strict in there as they think you'll steal all the state secrets inside. there was even a timelimit on the coffee shop!
We then went shopping in the Unirii mall which surprisingly had an Accessorize. The rest of the shops were pretty crazy through..alright if you wanted a balldress but not so great for backpackers!!
Tonight we are going to a restaurant that was in our guidebook and conveniently across the street from our strange little flat. The guidebook describes it as a nice italian restaurant with a good atmosphere and tasty food but very randomly all the waitresses apparently wear different football shirts! will take some photos!
dunno if anyone is actually reading this but it will serve as a nice memory for us if nothing else
Love Casz (and Hannah says hey!)
p.s unsure whether to be worried or not but one of the few phrases that the guidebook gives us in Romanian is 'Help, ive been bitten by a stray dog'!!! in case you ever need it it is 'Ma- muscat un maidanez'

Chris and Ellie Hi Casz and Hannah Thought we would write a comment to say how much we love your blogg. Dad is on a fishing trip.... going to stop and buy a tin of tuna on the way home just in case... We could not see any photos don't know why it may have something to do with this back street internet cafe in the harbour in Molivos. It was lovely to read the reports I'm going to try and print them for dad. Take care both and enjoy the rest of your trip. xxxxxxxxxxxx
