We took the 3 hour train from Bucharest to Brasov and it left at 5.30am so we got the joy of experiencing the railway station at 4.30 in the morning (because we are both so paranoid about missing trains we have to get there so early!!)
The train was pretty gross (wont go into detail but lets just say that the tolilets were special!) but we were so zombie-like that it didnt matter really.
We arrived in Brasov and quickly found what has to be the nicest hostel on Earth. We both agreed that it was nicer than any house in England with a pool and sauna, beautiful bedrooms and oak beamed living room. it cost us 12 pounds to stay there and the people who owned it were soo lovely.
They showed us where to get the train to Dracula's castle in the village of Bran. We had heard that it was a let down so to get there and realise it was really beautiful was a nice surprise. The link with Dracula (Vlad Tepes) is pretty weak but the castle was nice to look around.
The we went back to Brasov and looked around the town which was lovely. They have put up a large Hollywood-style sign on the hills above which was hilarious (especially as our guidebook said it was to cover up the fact they had cut down the trees there in a pattern that spelt STALIN during the communist era!)
Had a horrible dinner that night - Hannah had some sort of pork soup and I had an entired fish that had been dunked in batter. I swear there was more bone than fish on it!
The next day we left Romania on a 13 hour train....
