Angela was long gone when we got up. Along with Aaron we set off for the National Air Force Museum in Dayton. We stopped for breakfast and got there a little after 10am. The car park was already quite full so we walked along side the memorial gardens with memorials to various conflicts and entered the museum via the usual metal detector.
Pete and Aaron loved the planes. Aaron enjoyed not needing to read what each exhibit was cos Pete could just tell him lol. I lagged behind and did a lot of reading about the exhibits. One area was about the early days with Ohio references prominent and not just cos of the wright bros. Other areas included one dedicated to the holocaust with stories of camp survivors from the local area. Many had donated personal possessions such as photos, camp uniforms and much more. There were videos of many telling their story, not as harrowing as I found Ann Franks house but still moving.
Then of course there were the planes, rockets and space displays. All up we were there for about five hours, walked a lot and had a great day out. When we left we spotted a sign pointing to the first air field in the USA which was only a short distance away. We went there, missed the turn so circled the full air base, I'm not sure it was an accident after all Pete was driving lol Next pass and we made the turn and drove up the grassy drive. On the left we spotted our fist ground hogs, odd looking critters.
From there we did another circuit of the base, stopped for some lunch at Wendy's and headed back to Loveland.
Angela again beat us home, we chatted while waiting for her mum Angie to arrive then we all went to the complex's club house. Part of the apartment style living is a central area, there's a gym, media room, computer room, theatre, CD library, large pool and outdoor entertaining area. Once a month they have a get together and tonight was the night for this month. It was pretty good, free beer, some hot dishes and a very good range of cheeses, cookies etc. We spent a couple of hours there, ate enough to call it dinner and had a few laughs. I can see the appeal of this style of accommodation.
We walked back to the apartment, chatted for a wee while til Angie left then we watched some shows together before bed.
