After hot pot lunch we are off to climb up on top of the city wall in Xi'an. Picture shows steps - up we go. See photo album of being on top. Albert and Cow enjoy the views. This city wall protected the city from invasions. Towers were stragically placed to face the regions where enemies would come from. A moat surrounds the city wall that was meant to keep people safe with access to food inside the wall. Now the wall indicates the inner city with ring roads on the outside of the wall creating other portions of the now Xi'an City. The wide spaces on top of the wall are even used today for bicycling and running races. See the photo album of even seeing a bride having a photo shoot for her at this site. Michelle Obama had visited this site in the morning and we could see where they were taking down the performing area and carpeting that greeted her. You may walk the wall, take an electric cart with a driver around the wall but in places the passengers need to get out and walk up the steps a notch since it is against the rules for the drivers to drive up those ramp areas with passengers. This is China and all eyes are on people so the rules are followed. Again up on the wall not so many people as you expect. Again, probably just the beginning of tour season or maybe people were avoiding the site today due to all the pagentry and blocked off areas for security. We actually could not walk to certain parts of the wall due to just that today from the first ladys visitation. At night it is lit up like a disney land or Vegas fantasy site with lights running all around the top of it. So pretty and worth to see it at both times during a day.
