For a change we were up on time this morning to leave for Gulu, however in true Ugandan style our driver was late, and we left at 830 for our trip to the north.
As we left Kampala behind the landscape changed from the bustle of the urban hills to lush green vegetation, complete with mud huts, fast flowing rapids and monkeys!!!!
After several hours of travelling, and picking up a local on the way to assist with directions, we arrived at St Judes Children's Home. We were greeted by many happy children of all ages who excitedly unloaded our bags from the car and took them to our guest house without any prompting or instruction but with much relish!
All the staff were incredibly friendly and made an effort to introduce themselves and welcome us personally. Whilst the guest house was modest and basic we felt instantly at home in the relaxed atmosphere of the home (even if we do have to share our shower with the spider family!). We settled down for the evening and looked forward to our first full day in Gulu tomorrow.
