I waved goodbye to mum an dad at the departure terminal and that's when the nerves set in.. After a year of planning and every set back you could imagine - i was finally about to take the trip of a lifetime.
The plane ride was so much fun, i sat in between 4 guys from England who were all lovely and more than happy to have a chat and a drink with me. It flew by - Literally and before i knew it i was wondering through the grand Singapore airport!
It was late at night so instead of braving the train into the unknown, i opted for a taxi and a steep $24 later i arrived in Little India at my hostel 'Bunc'. Such a sweet place, so clean and inviting. I took a short stroll through the streets to find water as i wasn't game to drink the tap water and upset my guts on my first night. The streets were buzzing - people everywhere, mainly Indians eating, drinking, smoking, beeping their cars every 2 seconds - It was an amazing sight full of culture.
After finding my way back to my room i was happily greeted by Sarah - My new roomie who was from London, heading to Melbourne in Aus. She was lovely and we chatted away and made plans for the next few days together until we both fell asleep...
After a huge breaky (had to stock up to save my pennies) we headed out on our adventure, we walked through Little India into the breathtaking city exploring every nook we could, we found the famous lion, which gave Singapore it's name as 'The Lion City' and then we came across the best treasure ever invented... A magnum store which lets you create your own magnum! Delicious mmmmmm.... Next stop was 'The Gardens of the Bay' which is known as one of the best gardens in the world - and it definitely impressed, it was so beautiful and scattered throughout it man made supertrees that were full of lights and came alive at night. We took the skywalk which was about 30 meters high or more and the view was incredible! Onto China town then for some of the local food, Sarah was recommended a place so we searched until we found it in a small back alley lined with market and food stalls, chickens and everything else hanging up from hooks everywhere and not one other white person in sight, we were so far out of the tourist strip but that was what made it so good. I braved a chicken and rice dish which wasn't too bad but the thought of food poising was stirring in my mind - this wasn't the most hygienic place hahaha but it all went down well!
We made our way back to our room and collected some beers on the way then settled in on the multi-coloured bean bags. 2 girls popped their heads out of the door an bang - 2 became 4! Laura was from London and had a very quirky look about her, Steph was from Scotland and when she talked everyone could hear it! They joined us for some drinks and we headed back into the city to watch the light shows. Once in the city we were mesmerised by all the lights and buildings that we missed the actual light show so our plans soon turned to dancing :)
It was ladies night and we found our way to a bar called 'Altitude' on top of the highest building in Singapore - what an unbelievable view! The city sparkled like stars on the ground all around us and as far as you could see. We splurged and each made a pact to have one cocktail together since we were living it up in such a fancy place, one cosmo later and plenty of photos to prove we were rolling high, we found an empty seat and ignored the 'reserved' sign, soon 2 guys approached us and very nicely said we can sit with them and they have more friends coming so we chatted for a while then they ordered another round of drinks... An another.... An another.... Then champagne... Then Belvedere vodka (A bottle just for our table) and it went on an on all night, we danced and chatted to our new super rich friends who turned out to be very big people! One was the vice president of Kelly services (Recruitment company), Karen was the big big boss of Moet champagne, Emma was a big business owner from Paris, there were business bosses an owners from Brazil, Berlin an a few other places too but they were all so lovely. It was a great night and after way too many drinks we turned down their offer of partying on and ventured to the cab rank, no way we were walking through Little India this late at night!
The next day we woke up to a guy playing violin outside our window - in the rain! We decided on a lazy day because the rain set in so bean bags and the movie projector was where we stayed all day... The next day we planned to go to the beach but 2 of the girls had to leave and i wanted to pack as i only had one more night too. That arvo me an Steph said some sad goodbyes to Sara and Laura who were off to Melbourne. Steph decided to venture out and i spent the arvo getting ready for Paris!!! That night i went out and tried traditional food - Seafood which you cooked yourself on a huge urn thing and then drink the juice as a soup, delicious! Early night and back to the airport for some duty free shopping :)
