We woke up this morning bright and early. Saying good bye to Beijing. Before we go ahead with our journey, we should reflect on Beijing: amazing and crazy. The city is vast, beautiful, hectic and interesting. I size of the city is so large, row on row of large apartment blocks the reminisce a crapped grave yard full of tomb stones. The traffic system is not that of ours, in their own minds each and every driver has the right of way but some how it works! Our area of residence was one of the hutongs in Beijing. The best way to describe what they are is alley ways that are small streets that provide every day life activities like schools, stores, shopping and bars. The people stick to them selves, courtesy is hard to find. People shove, spit, hunk and yell but it seems to faze no one; well maybe us. The city center looks like any large city: nice cars, name brand stores, restaurant and snobby people: insert your typical large city here. Chinese life is the same but at the same time a whole lot different. Overall I can say we really enjoyed our stay.
Next we head to the train station, both modern and confusing. We purchased our tickets to Shanghai to option for warmer weather.
We are traveling on the very very new, fast and modern d class train. We have reached speeds of 320kph so far.
The scenery is very beautiful, the rustic country side amidst the vast sky scrappers in the distance. How five minutes on the train takes you from a city of just apartments to the tranquil country side, structured with old buildings, hut and shacks and five minutes more, a large modern city. The structure of China's people and life is do differential that you could convince that they are total different countries.
We look forward to an even larger city in Shanghai: 23 million people. between Beijing and Shanghai there are more the 44 million people: 10 million more then Canada.
Crazy!!
