So...got a good night sleep......went for breaky....nobody in there. cept me and the guy running the place who just moved here from Florida cause there was no jobs and he met this girl online and he followed her to the hotel cause she worked there and she got him a job so now he took care of the breakfast and a few other things he said at about mach two...kind like I'm writing this.....dude tired me out and I hadn't even me first sip of coffee yet....
Any ways...so grabed some grub...pulled out the map....hmmmm all be dang the ole Grand Canyon is mucho close.....what the hell....got me new destination....
So chased my socks around the room till I caught em....managed to get em on me feet....mmmm okay gotts ta do some sink laundry tonight...thats it....main reason is everyday they get quicker whence I try to catch em.......packed up...fueled up....drugged up...yeah neck still hurting...as I was sober.....and hit da road.....
So its like an 80 mile run....thats nothin.....to the North Rim....again hardly anybody on it...cept a bit of construction where its down to one lane....and again...open range...so the odd cow. Very scenic ride in thru a forest that had a big fire....not sure when but you could tell. You would never know you were pulling up to the canyon at all....till you get to the gates cuase its on the sign....and then ride a few more miles again nice and scenic very green....lottsa trees....then voila....a parking lot and a tourist center....not too many cars. I find a sopt right up front...love that on a bike. Pull in pull off the helmet...then a park ranger drivews up gets out and commences to bend my ear for the next half hour about how he loves my bike....cool....nice guy...but I got a canyon to see and its got to be here somewhere......so he bids ado....I pack up....he also tells me not to worry about me stuff as they have never had a theft. Also....this is off the beaten path as all the tourist go to the south rim...that explains why not too many people..... :)
So off I go....trudge a bit....then.......there it is.......holy crap....its a grand canyon....I s*** you not it really is big and deep...and looks freakin amazing. Now I forgot to mention I picked up a couple of stogies one to smoke guess where.....right here.....take it in have a stogy and sort life out. Well dream shattered....fire ban...can't smoke any where....crap.. Mission......need to have stogy in place that makes sense.....
Okay back to the Canyon.....WOW!!!!! So turns out there is a lodge right here. Its on the edge of the canyon "Grand Canyon Lodge" little cabins along the edge...you have a deck couple of rocking chairs that are on the edge of the canyon what a view...very cool....could be a very neat place to stay.
I don't know where to go...so follow some paths and end up in the lodge...its got this huge outside deck...with rocking chairs all lined up on the edge of the canyon.....so parked it for a bit...and took it in....wow....million dollar view.
But I just can not sit too long not in me...so hopped up grabbed me gear and went trail hunting. Found some really cool lookout points and I took about a hundred pictures of other couples and families with their cameras....seemed like the nice thing to do...they all want a group shot but most are too shy to ask so I just walk up and offer to take the pic....I guy could make a business outta of that if he so choose....
So then I clambered all over the place for a few hours...had to be careful with the riding boots as they don't have the best grip for walking and climbing and man one slip and ahhhhhhhhhhh....boing....ahhhhhh......boing......ahhhhhh.......boing..........eventually you would hear a....splat.
Wow...but time to go....so loaded up....took a look at me map.....and ......seems that I have to backtrack....to get to cross road.....that would ultimately get me to the booming metropolis of Kayenta.....which seemed to be the gateway to guess what.........MONUMENT FREAKIN VALLEY BABY that's what!!!!!!!!!
I think I can do this thing.......So hit the road.....nice ride....mucho hot.....mucho scenery...mucho hot....but crap...in the middle of the Navajo Nation....ya no beer here.....that so sucks...then I found the Navajo bridge....very cool.....very high up...the rafters below in the Colorado river looked like ants....its soo hot.....
No cell phone coverage.....lotsa heat....BK....is running like a trooper.....then.....finally hit a signal....check the GPS....whoo hoo they got a Super 8 in big ole Kayenta....give a call...they gots me a room...just like that.....all good.
Roll into town not too late....smokin hot....go to Sonics....that was an adventure....seems even when you go inside you order thru a speaker system....almost no human contact.....then a guy comes out on roller blades with your stuff....not sure I like that....
Definitely a small town.....but a major cross roads.....I definitely seem to stand out in the crowd.....get back to the hotel....unpack....stretch neck...beat my socks into submittion in the bathroom sink....take pills....have coke....err...cola....pass out....will look at map tomorrow....
