So here we lie, in the belly of a shark... So f*cking cold, so f*cking dark... Yep, fairly unpleasant to be inside a shark and that's why we are trying to avoid it as best as we can. The diving spoon had a close encounter with some curious sharks who escorted him around the Horseshoe Reef in The Tobago Cays, other than that we tried our luck fishing for some tiger sharks without success. Shark 1 - Spoons 0...
The spoons arrived Union Island last sunday and upon entering the island we quickly discovered a disturbing eat da poo poo meeting in the middle of the town square. As close as it can get! YouTube is your friend, if you know what we mean... That aside, Union Island with the surrounding islands is a beautiful place, it almost brings forth tears in our spoons. (That sounded so wrong). A fun fact, all ferries that operates between St. Vincent and the Grenadines are Norwegian!! Old Norwegian ferries that used to operate our westcoast.
We settled in at a cozy little guesthouse with a not so cozy neighbour. An evil old German man, constantly sprawling around in the same thong. Fortunately ze German moved out y'day, and saved us from many awkward moments.
We haven't gotten around to kite yet, but the diving spoon has satisfied his underwater needs, and we went Deep Sea Fishing with a local lad called Sebastian.
A windful morning we got up at 5.30 am and highly motivated from his catch from the day before, a 250 pounds Blue Marlin, we hurried down to the docks. In fact we hurried so much we forgot to eat breakfast. Luckily Sebastian had brought us an egg each. There is nothing quite like eggs, it must be the perfect food, hands down! With our spoontummies filled with this spectacular delicatesse we knew that this one gonna be one hell of a fishing trip. We pulled anchor and and set out to sea, destination The Atlantic Ocean. After some hours we arrived our spot, expectations were high as we could see birdies and fishies in a feeding frenzy all around us. Time to catch a Marlin, or at least something big, or at least something... Didn't take long before we had jigged a monster of a fish... But SNAP... The monstrous fish was so big he cut the line! Fish won, but we weren't about to give up that fast... Another bite, another SNAP... Fish gone, fish won... Whatta? Would love to see what was going on under the blue velvet carpet. After catching some bait aka bonitos and skip jacks, we set the line again... Nothing! Nothing! Nothing! But then, finally something was stuck on a spoon rod(!) Game on! The fish pulled hard and almost managed to drag the whole boat under which would have ended in disaster, but the spoons fought back. This was now a matter of life or death! We were not letting this phenomenal fish go, truly a gargantuan. After hours and hours of struggling we managed to heave the mighty yellowfin tuna aboard. Yes! The night was saved, selfcaught, selfprepared sushi incoming... The rest of the day didn't bring much action. We did catch a small blackfin tuna and some more bait and tried for some shark, but the shark kept on winning.
Back to the island... as the spoons are creatures of habit we quickly found a nice spot were we eat every night. And as huge vampire fans it's only fitting to be eating and drinking at Twilight Restaurant and Bar. We've met a lot of cool people here, but we have to protect their secret identities (replacement program by FBI) and therefore we cannot mention them by name.
The spoons, both still very fit btw, has discovered a problem... We are actually running out of free pages in our passport which could turn out to be a big ouch. But as you can see, the spoons are very much enjoying themselves in the Grenadines and we are in no hurry to leave.
