Packed up early today for a long drive to Sand, where my father was born. The journey through tunnels, around fjords and mountains was so beautiful. The scenery in Norway is amazing. Weather is still a little chilly but certainly getting warmer. After the second ferry ride, we visited Leif's brother and family for morning tea, then it was off to Sand. Unfortunately there was a fire which destroyed much of the town and my father parents house many many years ago. We drove to the famous Salmon river for a picnic lunch then went to see where my great great grandparents lived. There is a notice on the stone wall giving dates of births and deaths for my great great grandparents and also my great grandparents. Very special moment. Back over the mountain, around the fjords and on a ferry to Solvays cabin for the most delicious fish soup. Filled with prawns, cod and salmon. Solvays cabin is in the most beautiful spot at the bottom of a fjord. We went outside to see the sun set at 10 oclock at night. Amazing sight. Back inside to sample more liquers and sing more songs then into bed until tomorrow.
