On our last day in Laung Prabang we rent a tuk-tuk to take us to Kuang Si Waterfalls. The falls are Eden-like with icy cool and turquoise waters cascading down several levels. I freak out at the top of one waterfall and it takes me 20 minutes to build up the courage to jump while everyone freezes their asses off waiting to take a photo of me. In the process I make friends with a crazy happy Chinese man who finds me hilarious. The water is so clear and turquoise it really looks fake, like a movie set, and after my eventual jump I love it and stay in the water until my toes turn blue. Luang Prabang is a super relaxed town, lined with temples and tourist shops, where you can drink real cappuccinos, eat croissants and 'safe' salad. All of this is lovely but at the end of the week, armed with a ginger cake from the local patisserie, I am ready to head out and explore the more remote areas and people of Laos.
