SIEM REAP, CAMBODIA. THURSDAY APRIL 8 2010, 1900 HRS.
Amongst the ruins of Angkor, "The Pearl of Asia"... During this one day trip, I walked almost 10 hours in the tropical heat, and consumed litres and litres of water, and managed to get a little bit sunburnt. Angkor has amazing two hundred square kilometers of temple ruins… one could walk around and explore this area for weeks. I doubt there are many similar sights in the world, perhaps some Meso/South-American ancient stone city could match this place in scale.
This definitely deserves its title as the "eight wonder of the world". There are many places with that same title, and I've lived right next to one of them in Spain. And with all the respect to mis queridos amigos y amigas de España, the monument of the once so mighty Spanish empire in El Escorial is very small compared to this temple / monastery complex.
This place must have been even more amazing a thousand years ago, when the temples were shining and all the streets were full of people and life… I'll let the photos speak for themselves.
