Hi guys,
O.k, so only a little bit of info to update you on! haha!!
O.k, so since leaving Krabi we got a a songthaew to Phuket and went on a big island hopping trek- far far out in to the deep blue sea and saw lots of beauthful islands, such as the Muslim village where only 1,500 people live, James Bonds Island from Man with the Golden Gun (Tapoo Island) and saw ancient fishermans caves which have engravings of fisherman stories on them. Quite cool and wont even begin to attempt how to spell some of the islands!
Then of course, we spent a few days beach camping, which was very funky and quite literally was our own island called Koh Lawa, which is about 2 1/2 hours from mainland. And it was absolutely stunning!
The pics dont really do it justice and we had an amazing evening watching the sunset and driking Singhas and the food was pretty good too, but it was a very random place which was powered by a generator which stopped at 10pm so when night fell, Craig decided to let off his very dangerous fireworks that he had been carting around Thailand and least to say they were very very scary and loud!
Kes and I must have been suffering from the heat and become delirious because we went to our tent relativley early and provided our own entertainment by singing!
Particular favorites are from 'Enchanted'- 'True Loves Kiss'- although I only know one line and we have an hilarous video of us singing 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight'- will try to upload! We also hung our torch from the middle of hre tent and had a mini tent disco- we really arent normal are we! Seriously, very funny though!
Brekkie in the moring was not all that great though - cold eggs and frank furters!
One girl didnt know what a frank furter was and thought it was a person and Kes and I literally just laughed at her for a long time! It wasnt that funny but you had to be there (Han it was like when the woman in Sainburys asked us where the tomatoes were!)
We then got on a boat to a tiny place near Phuket and met the cutest Thai children- they all came running out of their homes when we ported and were seriously the most delightful little things ever- all giggling and lauhing and smiling and they were so fascinaited with us and were so willing to have their photos taken- I have fallen in love- I wanted to bring one home! Especially the little girl in the red dress on the pics! Too cute!
We got to our hotel in the centre of Phuket which was positively palacial in comparison to being sweaty bettys for three days! Muchos shopping was done and we sent a big box of stuff home from the post office (which encompassed four trips- dont ask!)
We had an amazing Thai Massgage- yes another one!! And we went to Patong to see a show called Fantasea.
O.k- Fantasea!
So much to say about this place!
It was like the most random circus, zoo, disney-esque, trippy dream that you have ever had!
There was lots to see and do and even more elephants and random animals- and a big show that was actually pretty amazing and also so so funny! Slightly random- sort of telling you about Thai heritage and the evolution of man using acrobats, singing, dancing, and doves, dogs, water bissons, horses, amazing elephants and tigers (Kes and I held one!) and most hilariously chickens!
Kes laughed so much and I cried- think I was a tad emotional about leaving and I fell in love with the elephants! What a dork!
It was a late night but so worth it and we were up early for the plane to Singapore.
Singapore
What an amazing city!
We really would like to both go back here and spend more time, but in the short amount of time we had we feel like we saw a lot!
We went to Raffles and had a Singapore Sling (or two or three!) and it was so great- it hads such an atmosphere to it that you really just felt it was special place, you could almost imagine it in the Days of The Raj when all of the gents and ladies were sheltering from the heat in their white linens!
We also went to Clarkes Quay which was really cool too- all old shipping warehouses that have now been refurbed and they are now amazing restaurants and bars.
We feel like we saw a very different side to Singapore- as we were expecting it to be very buit up and all high rises but it was actaully very beatuful with lots of old Colonial architecture mixed with modern amazingly clean and sharp malls and it all seemed to work and compliment each other.
Needless to say we were pretty impressed as it was so easy to hop on a tube and be somewhere and so clean! Unfortunately though, back to the airport and on to Melbourne!
Melbourne
First of all we had an awful overnight flight to melbourne, where we didnt sleep at all, had a weird Indian family who took over all of the seats and one of them had a heart attack or panic attack midflight (four doctors turned up- so that a good thing to know!) and then a marriage announcement!
Needless to say we were pretty unimpressed and pretty exhausted by the time we go to St Kilda, Melbourne a 5.30 am for pretty much travelling for 30 hours to only be told we had no reservation at our hotel!
The man was the most unhelful man ever (!!!) and so out came the Lonley Planet and we literally had to phone around all of the local hotels- luckily one was available- called ther Tolarno Hotel- which worked out so well but we loved it!!!!
We eventually checked in at 7.00 am and slept until 2.00pm the next day!!
We loved St Kilda, despite our hoorid introduction to Australia and we went to Acand Street, famous for its cakes- very funny story to tell you about fruit boats and custrad canarlis- and had our nails done (much less hobbit like now!) and we had pasta and garlic bread and wine and nearly cried with enjoyment!
We also had an evening out in the Docklands area which is meant to be a very cool part of town, except we stuck out like sore thumbs due to the fact we were in flip flops and dresses and we were frozen after sending all of our warm clothes home from Phuket and all the locals were wearing their winter woolies!
Also due to the fact it was a Wednesday evening, it was absolutely dead! Quite funny!
Note:Bars close at 10pm
Note: Everywhere coses at 10pm!
Note:Convience Stores do not sell alcohol!
Note: Melbourne hotel rooms do not have room service!
Another very funny conversation was had with the foreign conceriege when I asked for a bottle of wine and he just bought me the wine glasses. Of course, Kes and I were in hysterics when he produced the two glasses and we were like O.K, but where is the wine and he looked at me like I was barmy and had to inform me that they dont do that in Melbourne!! So stupid but so funny!
O.k, need to get off now as have to pass the comp over to a fellow traveller- hang on, I will go on another one- I still have more to tell you......
(This is a good time for a loo break, or go get a cuppa, or if we know you like we think we do- go get a glass of wine!....)
