8th December
Wake up early in our weird smelling room, Jen showered first and managed to give herself quite a nasty electric shock when turning off the hot water, sooo I decided I could wait till later. We were picked up at 8am for our tour. The lady at check in had been very adamant we shouldn't eat and as much as this disagreed with my stomach I figured she'd know best. The weather was nice and clear so I was pretty revved up for seeing the ancient images. At the airstrip we got chatting to another English couple who seemed alright (more on that mistake later), and they seemed like a better alternaitve to two dickheads also part of our group. One American and one German. Both with the brain capacity of performing arts students! The planes only seat 5 people + a pilot so me, Jen, dickhead one and another couple squeezed in. Once we were up in the air it only took a few minutes before we were over the first image, that of a Whale. Like all the lines they were lines no deeper than 30cm and to be honest I don't remember seeing the Whale but I've got photos so I must have. After that the next couple are triangles (yawn!) and you start worrying about what you've paid for but soon enough your tipping one way of the other to see the astronaut, the hummingbird, the monkey and all the rest. Meanwhile dickhead number one was throwing up in his puke bag due to stuffing his face at breakfast, wa wa waaaa. The lines are brilliant though and it really makes you wonder about the who's and why's. These tours are the parts you will never forget and the bits most likely to make a good story over a beer back home. We were back at our hostel by 10:30am and gorged on fried eggs, fruit and papaya juice. We tried in vain to find something to do in Nazca but failed as it really is a one trick town. Most the people at the hostel had figured out the same so a group of us sat round the pool swapping itineraries and advice before Tom & Valerie (couple from earlier) told us all we were traveling around countries too quickly. They'd opted to spend 9 months traveling round just South America and were moving faster than most so we politely ignored the snobby b******s after that. We still had hours to kill so managed to watch Michael Owen score a hat trick in the champions league and gave dinner at a bar complete with veggie menu before packing up for the overnight bus to Cusco. Goodbye Nazca it was brief but great!
