Well since my bungy expedition, the adrenalin has not stopped flowing, Queenstown was crazy! I'm glad to be relaxing a bit now I'm in Wellington, because after Wellington it all start again!
The day after the bungy we signed ourselves up for a bit of river boarding1`We'd heard mixed reviews, some people said it was the scariest thing they've ever done and they nearly died and others said it was pretty dull but we wanted to make our own minds up! The basic idea is to jump in a white water river with a body board and try and make your way down the river trying not to get sucked into the heavy stuff! The rapids we were on were grade 3 and teh maximum you can do in a raft is grade 5, so these were pretty big rapids considering it was just yourself and a board! The first ferw were ok, little piddlers really but the rapids namwed 'maneater'and ''rollercoaster'' were pretty terrifying and your constatnlty fighting a battle with the current, so your legs are so tired and then they cramp up but you still have to kick otherwise your going under! The problem weas that there were so amny people in teh river, every time you kicked you kicked another person, very frustrating! At the end of the river though there was a 13m rock jump, a board slide and a jetski ride which were all very cool! I enjoyed teh day and was absolutely knackered by the end, but I don't think I'd do it again!
The follwoing day it was time for our trip to Milford Sound! Apparently this is the most beautiflu place in NZ and thats saying something! If you dont visit its like going to Egypt and not seeing the Pyramids! It certainly lived upto its reputation! Evern the drive down there is amazing which is good because t took 5 hours! Seriously its like driving through a prehistoric land the mountains are huge and just drive right between them! It had been raining for about a day too so everywhere you look there were loads of waterfalls, it was incredible! Apparently the road is really dangerous though and is often closed bacause of teh devastating rock falls, you can see all the trees in teh valley have been ripped out but its not from teh ricks its from the gust of wind that occurs due to the rocks falling, tahts some serious wind! Once we got to Milford Souind we hopped on a boat and and cruised around the Sound for a couple of hours and it is gorgeous it reminded me of Jurassic park or something from Greek mythology or something, it was quite overcast whwn we were there but I thought this was a good thing, it added it mystery and it bacame very eery, as it was so quiet with no one around! YOu could see the mist rolling over the mountains and again there were loads of waterfalls! We had an awesome day!
After Milford we returned to ahve a famous Ferburger! Thwese are teh greatest burgers on teh planet, a massive bap with a 1'4 pound of beef, lettuce, tomatoes, beetroot, everything you can think of, they are awesome! We had some kip then jumped on teh bus in the morning, to take us to Geraldine where we be doing soem white water rafting, very exciting! We decided to do it here because the river is not deopendant on the weather it has grade 5 rapids no matter what! Sweet as! After a few hours driving we got picked up by another bus to take us to our hillside lodge that they put you up in, this place was perfect it really added something to teh whole trip, it was tucked on a massive farm with no one else around and surrounded by amazing scenery, they had some grass areas so we had a kich around and tehy had a log fire, and a sweet entertainment system so we chilled out and watched everones skydiving/bungy dvds! The excitement was beginning to mount for the follwoing days action, white water rafting was one thing that was definately on my list of things to do whilst travelling and I was about to do it!
rafting was well worth the wait aswell, next to learning to dive it is probably the best thing I have done! You just cruise down this amazingly blue river after having been trained what to do if you fall out and stuff and then hit the rapids! They start you off gently and because we were quite a striong group and we had the lead instructor I think he treated us to a few extras liek trying to make us flip over at every opurtunity and bump us into rocks and stuff, only on teh small rapids though! The grade 5's were pretty imense and it was awesome falling down mini waterfalls and clinging for your life as white ater smashes your raft in every dircetion its wicked! After the main rapids we tried stading up in teh raft whilst going down rapids and lots of other crazy stuff then there was another rock jump. What a wicked day! They dropped us off back in Christchurch where we stayed at teh Jailhouse agin and it was time to make our way to the north island, if its half as good as South island then I cant wait!
I'm in Wellingtom at teh minute and we've visited the Te Papa museum which is quialty lots of buttons to press and stuffa dn they've got an earthquake simulator! Its all gonna kick off again after Wellington, many more adventures to come!
