2 blogs in 2 days...this is what happens when you finally get an internet connection at your hotel.
I woke up at 6:30 in Westfield NY (the bates motel) to the sounds of super loud Thunder. it was like stereo, and coming from all sides. GREAT!!!! thunder means......More rain! HAHAHA (if I dont laugh, I might start crying)
thankfully, around 8 AM, the rain stopped and the sky cleared. it was time to get the F out of Westfield, and Head north to Buffalo! Which......Sucked. So I decided it was time to break into Canada!!!!!
btw... Lake Erie IN New york state is A LOT nicer then it is in Erie, PA. I took some pics, though they never do it justice. I also rode through a little town right off the lake that got flooded BAD. I wanted to stop and take pictures, but people were still cleaning up the mess and it just didnt seem right to snap away.
So....I get to the Canadian border, and GUESS who they flag to get searched.......ME!!!!!!!!!!!!
HAHAHa, oh yeah.....thankfully it was pretty painless, and I think the 2 border guards really didnt feel like undoing all my straps and bunjie cords and what not. They all kept saying to me..."you're really going to Alaska?" over and over, as if they thought NO ONE in their right mind goes to Alaska son! but whatever.... so inside ANOTHER border guard was checking out George Smith on his fancy computer, and (no lie) pulled up the splinter web site!!! HAHAHAHA. he started qouting the site, and checking out pictures and songs. It was pretty funny and surreal. I should have given him a CD right there. I think he was a little star struck or something. He then walked me back to my bike, and asked some questions about my guitar, and said..Well your story definitely checks out.. have a great ride into Canada! Whew! Only me, I swear!
by the way..speaking of things people say to me. well...on the same note...Old men seem to always stare at me and the bike mainly as if to say..What in the HELL is that boy doing? Have you ever seen so much crap tied to a motorcycle before?
So..where was I...Oh yeah! CANADA! Woot Woot! pretty cool, well.....its OK to be honest. It was cool getting INTO Canada, but then. things started to look A LOT like home REAL quick. WAIT.....there's a sign for Niagara Falls..Heck we dont have THAT back home.... 10 mins later. WOW. Im at the falls. It was pretty cool I must say, cooler then I thought it would be. ya know..after seeing it a million times in movies and such. very cool in person. The whole area seemed awesome. Casinos, Hotels, People EVERYWHERE. even a dude playing guitar in a little food court kind of spot. I know THOSE gigs all to well. a million people around, yet no one seems to give a rats ass about the guy playing the guitar. Oh well... so took some pics, and some vids, and thought that this place would be 200x cooler is Ashley was here. And..I know it would be, so after about 30 mins, hopped BACK on my bike and figured I'd ride north to Toronto.
so. I stopped off at McDonalds for lunch. and..not that I really wanna blog about mickey D's BUT...this was like THE best friggin mcdonalds I ever had! I swear my grilled chicken sandwhich was like TV commercial worthy. If this sandwhich was'nt getting eaten by yours truly, It culd have been voted #1 mcdonalds sandwhich on looks alone by all of its lesser sandwhich peers. Seriously!
so. Toronto....hmmm......I friggin HATED toronto! It might have been cause by the time I got there it was rush hour, and there was traffic EVERYWHERE. it also might have been that being stuck in traffic and getting nowhere, and running around in circles trying to get OUT of Toronto....YUP..you guessed it....MORE RAIN! GRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
I swear to God. 3 days, and all 3 had rain. WTF?
I've also come to the conclusion that Im sick of big cities. This isnt what I set out to do. I want country side, and mountains, and awesome scenery, not traffic and s***ty drivers, and smog, and Stupid French Canadian drivers in crappy VW busses spewing black smoke behind them, as they almost run you off the road.(OK, there was only 1, but HEY)
So, I had to get out of Toronto. and Now..no more big cities. Im steering clear of them. It honestly took me HOURS to get out of Toronto. I Swear that city is designed to NOT get you out.
I also HAd to call AT&T...cause I was promptly reminded once I crossed into CANADA by a text msg, that it would cost me basically an arm and a leg to call, get calls, get voice mail, TExt anyone, and use data on my iphone. UGH! So, I had to get the international plan, which knocks my calls down to like .59 a min or something, and 20 megs a month of data. which i have NOO clue what that wrks out to when you're IPHONE-ing weather, hotels, emails, etc..
So, i need to find free wifi EVERYWHERE i go in this country, and take full advatage of it. Also, Im on the Tyler todd text program while Im up here. which means, You all can text me all you want and I dont get charged, but I get charged like .60 to send a text or some crap. forget that.
Hmmm..so far. I havent camped out ONCE in 3 nights. stupid rain!
This trip is costing me WAY more then I had planned, and its all from Hotels. I think they must do rain dances to keep people like me from camping out.
So, im sleeping in a sweet ass hotel in Barrie Ontario. Its a little NW of Toronto. and tomorrow I keep going in that direction.
so...
Lake Erie in NY rocks, Niagara Falls is pretty awesome! Canadian McDonalds kick USA's ass. I honked at 2.5 cows. the .5 was a plastic cow. he only got a half a honk. Saw some horses and sheep. No mooses yet or mounties.
Road 10 hours, not sure how many miles. I forgot to log it. gonna guess 200+
I miss you guys, and thanks for all the encouraging msgs
