Sweet Rewards
We've been working hard on the farm, although the weather has been less than ideal. Our biggest project is making garden beds so we can grow delicious veggies, herbs an edible flowers! More importantly though, we have to deer fence the whole gardening area otherwise all our growing efforts will be for not. As it is, the deer meandering through the property have seasoned themselves beautifully on apples, grass, bay leaves and veggies from other people's garden beds - so we are very much looking forward to deer season
With all the physical labor we have conveniently justified eating all sorts of sweet treats. This is one of our favorite chocolate-tee influenced ones:
flourless-yet-fudgy brownies
(from 'easy comfort food' Ryland, Peters & Small)
These are so moist, even my sister will fall over in lust - garuuuunteed
Apologies for the metric - I use a scale for this
INGREDIENTS
300g of semi-sweet chocolate chips
150g of unsalted butter
50g of cocoa powder
4 large eggs
200g granulated sugar
100g walnut or pecans pieces (optional)
powdered sugar for dusting
brownie tin 20.5x25.5 cm greased and base-lined
makes 12 or more
Preheat oven to 350F.
Melt chocolate and butter in a double boiler stirring frequently. Remove from heat and add cocoa powder.
Put eggs in a standing mixer with whisk attachment and beat well. Add sugar and mix until very light, frothy and doubled in volume.
Using a large spatula add chocolate mixture to the egg and sugar. Fold in carefully until well combined. Pour into prepared brownie tin and spread evenly.
Bake for about 25-30 minutes until the top is just firm to the touch but center is still slightly soft.
Cool for 10 minutes. Dust with powdered sugar. Serve with dollop of vanilla ice cream or creme fraiche.

My sweet geranium doesn't look too healthy unforunately, green fly and curled leaves...don't really want to use sprays...any tips for me? Have fun on the farm, Diana
Christina Bollinger Hi Diana! Hope you enjoy the brownies. Sorry to hear about your geranium. I may try to keep mine on the screened patio to prevent heebadeejeebadees. This is an interesting all-natural remedy you may want to investigate: http://www.pernellgerver.com/neemoil.htm Stay hungry! xx
