The bus ride to Calama was so smooth and quick it was unreal. Again the roads were perfect. We drew into Calama and were impressed by the streets and how clean the place was. We wandered into the town centre but found it impossible finding anywhere to stay. We wandered into a little bakery that had an internet café attached to it and tried looking up some places to stay on the net with no luck. Eventually we went to the poshest hotel in town to ask if they could point us in the right direction
Fortunately the receptionist was really helpful and pointed us across the road to a little hostel. The place was really basic but also very clean and the people there seemed helpful and friendly. That evening we wandered around a little looking in the shops and cafes. Calama is really quite a nice little town. We couldn’t believe how cheap electrical goods are over here and, although I probably wont now, I was considering buying a really nice flat-screen TV over here (it was only 150 pounds!!!).
Tonight we are getting the overnight bus up to the very North of Chile to a town called Arica. From there we´re hoping to cross the border back into Peru and head towards Arequipa and then up the Peruvian South coast to Lima, and then a little further North towards Trujillo.
