After a hair-raising drive (there was many in India but this was one of the worst) and a long wait (listening to Frosty the Snowman) we finally flew out of India on Monday night....phew!!
Arriving in Singapore was wonderful, everything was clean and when we stepped outside the airport we could breath in fresh unpolluted air! There was no crazy driving and not a car horn beeping anywhere. We made our way to our Hostel, One Florence Close on the amazingly efficient MRT system (like a space age London Tube). Our Hostel was so nice, luxuries included clean sheets that we didnt mind skin contact with, air-con and the company of the most adorable two cats in Asia! The cats were big fluffy persians called Romeo and Pepper, they were fed sausages and fish freshly cooked everyday and we thought they were a bit spoilt, but they both had a dirty side! Romeo seemed to have a thing for Kams stinky feet and every night we found him fast asleep with his head buried deep in Kams trainer (which really does stink!!!) and Pepper seemed to love the toilet and every night we found her curled up asleep round the toilet!!\
Singapore is so easy to get around, one day we went window shopping down Orchard Road. Orchard Road is really long and has so many shopping malls on there its mind boggling! We got a bit exhausted here so we went somewhere called SunTec City which we found out when we got there that it was another huge shopping mall, in fact we found that every where we seemed to go had a shopping mall!! Another day we went over to Sentosa Island, we got there by cable car and it poured with rain, in between showers we managed to go on these things called Luges down a big hill. Kam enjoyed this as it was the first time in a few months hes been able to get behind a wheel!! We went up the Carlsberg sky tower where we got a great overcast view of Singapore, we found Sentosa a bit tourist sickly! We went to Chinatown aswell where we enjoyed some lovely Beef noodle soup and dumplings, these are all made fresh infront of your eyes. We wandered around and took in some sights and the amazing smell. There are food stands everywhere!!! We also managed to catch some movies Shrek 3 and Spiderman 3 at the awsome cinemas. We did go a bit wild on our final night here. We decided to go to Clarke Quay, we had a boat trip and found the skyscrapers all lit up at night mesmorising and quite pretty in a concrete sort of way, we were just about to head back when Kam was caught in a male tractor beam towards a bar which was showing England vs Brazil, we decided we would have a pint each and watch a bit of the match. Because of Kams football daze we didn't bother checking how much a pint was until we got the bill! We had to put the drinks on our flexible friend, and thought to make it worth it we should put a few more pints on there! Thoughts of budget travelling left our minds that evening, and we thouroughly enjoyed watching the match, being serenaded by a man singing Fly me to the moon and looking at the twinkly skyscrapers through a beery haze!
We really enjoyed our time in Singapore, it was refreshing to see new faces, hear different languages and try new food. We were completely amazed at how clean and efficient everything is in Singapore, its as if someone has thought about every little detail to make things easy. There are escalators everywhere, clean toilets, subways, food stalls and shops. There are also safety signs everywhere for everything from crossing the road correctly to standing on the Escalator in a safe way!!! We felt very safe walking round late at night and the people we met were very freindly, we're very sad to leave!!
Our next stop is Mellaka in Malaysia, we plan to go to a few places in Malaysia and then head up through Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia and then back through to Bangkok, Thailand where we will head off to Oz!!!
