Entry 3: Broadway Shopping Centre
This is the second time I writen this entry. First attempt through the iPhone app ended in a crash when selecting a picture to go with the post => lost everything I typed. My advise: type your entry out in Notes then copy into the OffExploring app.
Found it amusing the first spoken words I heard was Viet and the first warning sign was "25 years imprisonment for child sex abuse". Most of the taxi drivers here are Asian and do not have sat-navs, it was a bit of pain to give directions. Nevertheless we arrived home, was given a quick tour of the house, the sofa will be my bed for the next 5 weeks. The house is brilliantly situated in the city centre. Most locations in the city is walkable from the house. We dropped the bags off and headed out for lunch at the Broadway Shopping Centre which is just around the corner. The traffic lights system here is terrible, there's a giant button to press as if you're blind to cross the road, no feedback to know if it was pushed, waited almost 3 minutes just to cross a section of the road. They should have used CCTVs to control traffic flow and prevent crimes. We looked for McDonalds at the food court but didn't find them nor KFC. Friend insisted the first meal here should be a proper one, we went to a nearby Malaysian restaurant but it was closed, we walked up the street to find and alternative and settled in a Taiwanese restaurant. Had basket beef with rice for $10, food wasn't that great but the fresh ice tea drink was nice, for the same price in London could have way better food. Had experience with the new currency for the first time, the notes are all plastic weather-proof like in Vietnam, bizarrely only 1 note has the Queen's head on it, the lowest $5 note, you judge. Here's an interesting fact from Discovery, did you know all the notes has traces of cocaine? Mainly because people use them to snort. Called BB right after lunch to arrange to meet later on, really looking forward to this. First day seems hectic already!
