Arriving in Delhi was most definitely an experience in itself. Its unbelieveably busy - people, cars, motobikes, tuc tucs, cows, dogs - mayhem and noise everywhere! We got through our airport control pretty painlessly and got our bags - thank god - then it was time to try and find our driver from the hotel. We came into the arrivals hall faced with hundreds of asian faces shouting and with boards in their hands waving - what looked more like unorganised chaos! Right at the end of this walkway was our board attached to a very small chubby indian guy who smiled and took our trolley straight away and motioned for us to follow.......we walked through hundreds of people all shouting and past cars beeping until we came through a tunnel walkway that lead to the parking area - the roads were uneven and the car park looked more like a demolition site put to good use. Our car was a small Tata looked like it had had better days but then there wasnt many that didnt! We got in - air con being windows down, seatbelts nowhere to be seen and crazy drivers everywhere horn happy! Quite a nerve wracking experience - we got to our hotel and were quite shocked at the area we were in - it didnt sound like the description on the net and it looked like we were in the slums of Delhi but then maybe we were expecting too much as spoilt white westerners...I dont know as I have nothing to compare it to and would probably never return to Delhi - I have a photo or two I will add when I find a place I can upload photos on here. Considering we had no sleep for almost 36 hours we wanted some food and then sleep as we had the Taj Mahal day trip the next day and wanted to be in good humour as it would be a long journey. The rooms were clean and we had hot water and the beds were comfortable so we were quite happy. We had some food (Tandoori Chicken and Rice) then showered and crawled into bed, the time being about 6.30pm, only to find that the noise in the street did not lessen through the evening and by 8.30pm we were going out of minds trying to just sleep! Lucia even rang reception to ask what time the noise stopped haha rather amusing actually - he tried to explain it was in the street he cannot do anything and she ranted a little and then he actually said 'Not my problem!' haha she wasnt impressed but we did laugh about it the next day! Woke early had a dismal breakfast consisting of soggy bread meant to be toast so our stomachs were empty until a pit stop on our car journey. Our driver Sonu picked us up at 7.30am and we had a 4 hour journey ahead to get to Agra.
