First 3 hours of the first day of our 5 day trek to Poon Hill and beyond.
Trail is just right, good mixture of up and down, dirt and rock, hill and steps.
Weather blue sky, not too hot with a slight breeze, perfect.
We are trailing the valley, so snow capped mountains are out of view. Stopped for lunch, curry what else.
After lunch 2 hours to 2200m for our first night. Looking forward to sun setting over ice caps tonight.
Arrived at ulleri knackered, the 2hr trek was stone steps up all the way. Accommodation in a tea house, felt like room was hanging on the edge but shower hot and strong, squat for a toilet.
Food ok, played cards then early night, slept like a log. Up early to clear blue skies and set off 8.30. Great trekking weather of blue skies again and a bit cooler. Cracked on and made it to ghorepani in 3 1/2 hours. Great hostel room with view of Annapurna south. Unfortunately clouds have blown in so 45 minute trek to poonhill for sunset over icecap looking dodgy, got 2hrs to wait and see if clears. It's colder here like a ski resort feel so sat by nice fire. Kissor our guide had plans for a tame trek but we are pushing to go a bit further and reach the hot springs. Joe wants to see if it will help his psoriasis. Apart from walking once you reach your stop there is little to do or see. Body is holding up well for an old git and I'm sure I will sleep well tonight again. No Internet so this will be a long blog posted when we return to pokhara.
Played cards last night taught Kissor s*** head then early night again as early rise.
Great day today, 5.00 start just threw on extra clothes and se off in the dark to Poon hill. Along with everyone else probably 70 strong with their clickety clacky poles at a snails pace. We have named them the stick people. Sun rise at 3200m on Poon hill wad fab. Lighting up the ice caps hope the pics are ok, camera playing up. Then back down to tea house for the best porridge and fruit. The Hungry Eye tea house gets my vote for the best so far, hit shower, great view and superb food. Staff very friendly especially Maye . Set off for today's trek at 8.15 am and arrived at green hill lodge at 5.00 pm. We have walked over 3200m then down through snow and ice, very slippy, then back over 2800m, down through forest to river , back up to 2100m. It is safe to say we are tired now. Just ordered food, Joe is contemplating a shower which is sort of hot and semi outside!!!
Afternoon turned cloudy and now light rain. We seem to be getting cloudless days up to 1 or 2 then cloudy low cloud. When sun is out hot but cold at night. Here is cold now in a room overlooking the valley, it has a wood burner but no one seems like lighting it. We will see. Saw monkeys in the forest today like White faced long tailed limas will look up when we have Internet. Just seen a sign with animals of the region and the monkeys are Lumar's.
Great day today, last nights digs not too hot had to evict at least 8 spiders from the room before Joe saw them, told him he'd rather I hadn't . We where so tired in bed by 8. Both had interrupted sleep but woke fresh, up at sunrise, porridge and fruit and away by 8.30. Just a small 3 hr trek to evergreen lodge fab place dumped bags, had lunch then 30min trek down to hot springs. The best, nice thermal bath then a dip in icy river and back to hit bath. Think Joe wanted to stay all day. Now sat in bar having a cool beer after walking back to hostel in a thunderstorm. Right now life us good, not to sat I'm missing you all back home but hey. Long trek back to pokhara tomorrow.
