622km's cycled in 10 days - We made it Team ROD&JACQ - what an achievement. We talked about this in 2011, set the goal and now have achieved it. It was a tough days cycling, windy & hot. We had to cycle from our friends place in Ventenac to Narbonne, this was a fast right without all our stuff only 45 minutes - machines!! We hooked onto the Canal Robine in Narbonne which would take us all the way to the Med, we were really excited - the track was great and quite busy with lots of cyclist going out to the coast.
Gruissan Plague was our destination, there were many points out from Narbonne we could have jumped in the med - we decided on this one, the only negative - no train back!!! The wind was rising as we pushed on to the sea, we arrived, the beach was crowded!! and so wide. We got our togs on and this was the moment we have strived for - for the last 10 days - we walked in and OMG it was FREEZING - my legs started to ache like an icecream headache - unbelievable, a wave came and the wind blew the top of the wave onto us and ok time to get in. Shock horror - well it certainly cooled the body temperature down. We sat and took in the scene on our tiny piece of sand surrounded by all the holiday makers, looked at each other and said - yep lets go - coast to coast complete!! Too crowded for us. We went to find lunch in Gruissan to celebrate, unfortuneately it was not a good lunch, bad service and really hot.
The ride back - mmmmm not looking forward to another 38km's in this wind & heat, we headed back riding like a team each taking a turn in front for awhile. A stop in Narbonne for a cold drink then we knew that the road was ahead of us having to deal with traffic and a few hills on the way back - it was tough, tough, I felt like I was going to burn up, first time I have got a bit burnt in Europe there is no way you cold be so long in the sun in NZ!!! But wait we need french champagne to celebrate so not really knowing what we were buying we opted for a bottle that mentioned Dom Perignon, so figured it would have to be good, we shared this with all back at Ventenac. What will be our next challenge? I love me bike, it just fits me the first womans specific bike I have had and what a difference.
