The West End, Brisbane is a quite a quirky place. Some buildings are shabby, whilst others remind me of the secret garden. Old fashioned, painted prettily with vines and willows creeping up the front of them.
It seems commonplace to have dreadlocks and you'd think there was something wrong if you didn't spot a pair of harems every five minutes. There appears to be an eclectic mix of people residing here. Old, young, students. backpackers, business men, emo's, trendies, infact, it's difficult to say exactly what brings these people together... but it works.
There's no sense of trouble or danger in the area. Everybody wears a smile and it would be hard to understand someone who didnt like it here.
The hostel we are staying in is quite shabby, but it's generally clean and the people are a funny bunch. We're in with an Irish lad called Stephen, who apparently is quite a shy lad. That was until he met me and laura! Due to the fact we are constantly terrorising him, mainly about his accent or dodgy hair doo, or should we say don't, he appears to have found his voice! It's all good banter though. Just took him a while to get used to it!
I was looking through a lonely planet guide last night, so if I get chance I may do a quick summary of all the places we've been too in Oz so far. It's pretty impressive when you look back.
Anyways, enough of the West End madness for now.
