After I booked my flight to Morocco for Monday 4th June, I was left with around 5 days empty with no plans and nowhere I really wanted to go. With the weather pretty dismal in Venice, and it not being the sort of place I wanted to be alone anyway as there's not much to do except wander and shop which can get really boring solo, I looked around for somewhere else to go. The southeast of France, southern Switzerland or Austria were all options, and Liz and Mia were planning to move on to Switzerland, so even though it hadn't been in the books I decided what the hell and booked a train ticket to go with them to Interlaken, Switzerland. Interlaken is so beautiful, the air is so clear and fresh and the river running through the town to the lake is an unbelievable blue and crystal clear. We're staying at a place called River Lodge, right on the river and in the centre of town, with an big communal kitchen which is really important as Switzerland is so so bloody expensive.
To be continued...
Ok Im back, tearing myself away from Morocco long enough to finish this post! Im writing on an Arabic keyboard and cant find all the punctuation marks (mainly the apostrophe) so apologies for that. Ok, as Ive said, Interlaken was extremely beautiful, and to fully appreciate that beauty Liz Mia and me decided to hike up a mountain to a guesthouse/restaurant perched on top. An interesting experience to be sure, one with many stops along the way to allow Mia to be snap-happy and me to catch up to the power-walking Liz. It also did me the favor of disabusing me of any notion I might have held of doing any trekking in the Atlas mountains of Morocco. But we got to the top and celebrated with a coke and many pictures of the panoramic views down the valley. The next day were supposed to do canyoning but it was cancelled - rain throughout the night and morning had forced water levels to rise too high. However, this meant perfect conditions for white water rafting, which although disapointed we did instead. (I think Mia was a little bit relieved!). The rafting was fantastic fun, but freezing cold! It took about an hour and a half and included a swim in the freezing river, which you know I could never turn down! Afterwards hot showers where in order, a big dinner and an early night to recover. The next day Mia and Liz headed out to Gimmelwald where I hope theyre having a fantastic time:) and I hung around with Alison and Beka, 2 girls staying in our hostel and had been on the same boat with the rafting. We went out that night to a local bar after Alison had decked us all out with her trusty makeup kit and danced the night away (with a cute guy called Zach??? I think!). Got back around 2am and fell into bed cause we all had to leave in the morning. I got my watch fixed (where better than Switzerland?!) and caught my train back to Milan for my flight to Marrakech the following morning. Just as an aside, I really didnt like Milan, although I stayed only briefly, and wouldnt reccommend a stay to anyone.
