Well, there's not much I can say about Chefchaoen, as I fell sick within probably an hour of arriving (4hrs from Fes). I think I had a touch (or more!) of food poisoning, as well as that loyal traveller's companion, the Dehli belly! Needless to say, with this double whamy I wasn't going anywhere, except to stagger from my bed to the loo and back! I met a really nice couple in the lounge of the hotel where, feeling miserable, isolated and homesick for my bed and someone to look after me I ventured in sit for a while the next morning. They talked to me, gave me loads of sympathy and good advice, and best of all gave me stomach-bug and anti-diorrhia pills to help me get better. I managed to stagger out of the hotel long enough to buy some water, plain fresh bread and bananas (the best for an unsettled stomach!). Up until now I've been drinking the tap water (supposed to be fine in major cities) without a problem. But Chefchaouen is definitely not a major city, and I've decided that the expense is worth it to avoid getting sick again!
I had planned to move on after 1 night, heading out to the desert on an overnight bus, but because I felt too unwell to move I ended up staying an extra night to give myself more time to recover. So on Saturday I decide I'm feeling well enough to get out and continue my trip. The overnight bus trip is awful, mainly because I'm not as recovered as I thought, and when I unwisely buy an egg sandwich for dinner, I spend most of the journey nursing a sore tummy. About 3am I do a very embarrassing thing, I wake up with a start and without any warning throw up in the aisle of the bus. I'm sure I would have managed to grab a bag if all the lights in the bus hadn't been turned off, or if the personal lights worked! Embarrassing for me, but apparently this happens all the time as the driver simply stopped the bus and grabbed some dirt to cover the mess before continuing on. After that I actually felt a lot better and passed the last 3 hours of the trip more comfortably.
