Around 3pm yesterday, the rain subsided for a little while so we managed to escape the hostel and go down town and low and behold I found these Teva sandals that I have actually eyed up for at least 9 months from home on sale! You don't get them in the UK. They're really good sandals which can be worn day and night so I'm gonna manage to send back a good few pairs and just use these which is sweet. Anyway, today we decided to go up the skyline on the gondola to take in the views of Queenstown and go luging down the hill. If you don't know what luging is, look it up but basically its kinda like a dodgem car that you speed down the hill on. Was fun. Think you can only go in NZ. The gondola ride up was pretty scary cause its so bloody steep. This is where I was considering doing paragliding and I was just like feck that. If I cant do that, how am I gonna skydive?? However, the ride up and the views were amazing. Later in the evening, we went back up the gondola to go to the evening buffet which was amazing. Was such good food. Infact, so good that both Joe and I felt so sick and bloated. The ride down on the gondola I thought I was gonna puke. We had to help eachother up the hill in anticipation of lying horizontal. Joe was quite funny. He resembled a pregnant lady, rubbing his belly. Somehow we managed to get ready later and headed out on the piss.

Woke up feeling mildly hungover and hankering after a Ferg burger so we went and patiently sat in the queue for the monster burger. I couldn't eat all of mine but then again we were sharing chips which were yum. Was a scorcher of a day so we went a walk and sat by the lake front with some ice cream whilst Joe batted away the birds hehe. He shoos them like they hear hehe. While later we decided to go and play crazy golf which was quite fun, mostly cause I kicked Joes ass heheheehe. You'd be proud dad. Had a easy night in cooking and chilling for our early start to Milford the next day.

Got up at 5.30 :( for the early bus to Milford with a snotty nose. Four hours there and four hours back. We managed to nod off a little but felt pretty crap. Milford Sound is meant to be one of the wettest places in the world and is at its most beautiful when it rains cause theres more waterfalls and they're meant to be more beautiful. Do you think it rained? Nope. One time I wouldn't have minded as well. On the way, we stopped for a couple of short walks for photos, one at the mirror lakes which was pretty cool. After a while, got there and boarded. Joe was in an especially b****y mood about the other passengers lol (felt like I was on holiday with mum for a wee while hehe). Anyway, made our way through the fiord and whilst it is beautiful with loads of waterfalls I don't think seeing it is as beautiful as the photos that are taken are of it. Dunno. Maybe it was just my mood, I wasn't feeling the best. Think the days air conditioning was taking its toll on me. The long journey back being eaten by freakin sand flies I developed a cough, my nose was running like a mo fo and me body was starting to ache. Not good signs. When we got off the bus I couldn't shake any of it off so had an early night in bed watching movies cuddled up... trying not to give my germs to Joe lol.
Tuesday 31st March 2009
Well, today was the day. The day of my sky diving and after a night of coughing, snotty nose and tossing and turning I was def not feeling the best. I ducked my head out the room, looked up to the sky and.... not much cloud. Damn. I was doing it today whether i liked it or not. They had my credit card details after all lol. Joe walked me down to the office and sat with me and the other nervous crazies whilst we watched a movie about it, which only proved to make Joe even more determined not to do it, it only made me more excited. After a kiss goodbye we were all taken by mini bus to the field. I sat next to a couple of Kiwi ladies, one of whom was doing it and got chatting to them. Luckily I was actually jumping at the same time as the Kiwi lady, Rebecca so I was glad to chat with her. We were first up. After getting suited and booted we got told how we were to position our bodies out the plane (basically you're hanging in a shape of a bananna out the side of the plane whilst the jumper takes your weight). Eventually we were escorted to the tiny plane which fitted me and Rebecca, our jumpers and a few guys who were recording it for us. The ride up was beautiful, I look terrified in the DVD but I actually felt ok about it. Bit nervous but ok. First, the dvd and photo guy jamp out for Rebecca and before I knew it she was gone and then my jumper patted my back, told me we were on our way, and then i crawled with my legs to the edge, hanging out of it at 12,000ft looking down on queenstown and FECK ME! I was out. I think I screamed and shouted "oh my fecking god" as we went upside down but those initial 5 seconds were amazing. The freefall was great. Wish that was longer, then the parachute came out and we were floating to the ground in one way then the other for what seemed like forever, having idle chit chat with my jumper lol. I'd survived. I'd done it. That's all that mattered. I'm yet to pick up my photos which I bet are less than nice, I was struggling to keep my mouth closed and smile properly. I guess I'm lucky I didnt drool or have snot nose lol. My ride back with everyone was fun, everyone was pumping with adrenaline. But you know, I actually felt pretty fine. I was happy and glad I'd done it and I was alive but I wasn't hyper or nowt. Was just really... weird. I couldn't wait to see Joe and tell him about it. Got off the bus in town where he was waiting for me and he gave me a big kiss and cuddle. Think he was just glad I was alive lol. Skydiving: Done. Fish and chips by the lake front and then back to hostel Onto Christchurch tomorrow for our last few days together :(
