Today we were cave dwellers in Slovenia. The tour around the Skocjan Caves was really impressive, you feel so small inside the huge cavernous depths so far below the earth´s surface. We were the only foreigners on the tour but we did have 30 Slovenian children on a school trip to keep us company so I felt quite at home. We walked up to the viewpoint and along the nature trails for a while which gave us some great views looking down onto the cave openings and a chance to spot some wildlife, Dan actually found a woodpecker at work but I was so slow taking up the rear that i missed it. There was the option to visit more caves but we both felt quite stalagmited and stalagtited out so we headed to the coast to visit Piran and see the sea once again. The village of Piran is small but quite sweet and, as we have said many times over the more recent weeks of our trip, the place would be great in summer. The marina is full of real boats, fishing mainly, rather than the pleasure cruisers we have seen on our trip so far, it has a really authentic feel to it. We headed back to Ljubljana and stopped in to the wonderful and omnipresent Merkur to buy our new friend Peter the Heater. A cosy night was had by all....
