Hello All, We are in Placencia, Belize. We arrived here on the 25th on an old yellow school bus, blaring Bob Marley and traveling on dirt roads at very high speeds. To say the least we had a blast and that was just on the bus ride. Belize has so far been very interesting and unlike most of the other countries we have been through.Everyone we have met has been very helpful and English is the main language, which is helpful for Tara who has been a partial mute in most Spanish speaking countries (maybe I should have studyed a bit harder in Spanish class during school). The town we are in now is basically an island, and we are planning on taking full advantage of that fact, by swimming, snorkling and just laying on the beach drinking the Belizein national beer (Belikin). Our boat to Honduras only comes by every Thursday and Friday we are planning on being here for 6 days, how horrible I don't know if we can stand any more of this paradise. The town we are in is surrounded by the Caribbean and fringed with palm trees, it really is just like "Fantasy Island" that could also just be because Tatoo is here. All of the houses here are up on stilts and painted bright colors. Our hotel is right on the beach and although it is a bit spendy ($36 US a night) not bad compaired to any hotel in the US. This afternoon we have a snorkling excursion to Laughing Bird Island, its about a 1/2 hour out by boat and we are both very excited (hopefully we won't get eatten by the only carnivous manatee in the world).
