Today we left Ashford Castle and headed south taking the Connemara route. This route takes you through the Connemara National Park where you can see the 12 Beans or Pins, a group of mountains that one can hike. We did the short 30minute hike which is a circular route starting at the visitors center then going around to an overlook where you can see across the valley and the mountain ranges back down a slightly steep downhill slope and back to the visitor's center again.
We stopped at Kyelford abbey which looks like pictures in books. Rick Steves didn't recommend paying the entry fee to see inside the Abbey so my friends just shopped while I chatted with this older couple from Wales on holiday in Ireland. I noticed a lot of United Kingdom folks on holiday during our trip.
Then we got stuck in roadway constructions saw sheep on side of roadway eating grass occasionally they were crossing the street which meant slowing down traffic. Totally picturesque and what you would expect to see in Ireland. The sheep all have pain on their wool which tells their owners whose cattle they belong to. Sheep are everywhere in Ireland! I even saw them when I was climbing up Croagh Patrick the other day.
We finally drove into Galway and found our B&B. Galway has small roadways and it was better if we walked to center of town. The walk was nice but not much to see other than houses. There were lots of people and noise in the pedestrian street, which is filled with mostly shops and restaurants.
Bob was walking around carrying Rick Steve's book around trying to find places to eat, which just totally screamed "tourist!" to all those around. Then we ate at Italian restaurant, had Galway bay oysters and king prawns with rice that had coconut in it. After dinner we went to another pub for some music, sat at table and shared 1 pint of Guiness but I didn't have any. Saw lots of interesting people crowding in around us including girls with tights that reminded me of dwarfs and Poodles took a picture of that girl. The music wasn't as good as it was in Donegal. And this old drunken weird guy came over was chatting with Poodles when next thing you know he plunks down and sits right next to me! I pretended to have allergies due to smoke and the guy finally got the hint and left. My friends just all laughed at me and for the rest of the trip teased me about him. Yeah that was soo appreciated! (NOT!!)After all this I was so ready to go back to our B&B, so we took taxi ride home.
