We said goodbye to our cozy home in kodijke and drove an hour to a bungalow park near Hilversum called Egelshoek. This is the place that was recommended by Elout and Adalei. We booked the last two weeks of our holiday there. It felt strange to be at our last stop of the trip before going home. I challenged myself to stay present, not to think about leaving, and enjoy each day of the final two weeks. As much as we missed family, I also knew I would miss so much about this trip; it was bitter sweet.
As we drove up to the bungalow park we noticed how well manicured it was. A fenced in area for 2 goats and a couple chickens got our kids excited. There was also a fountain and restaurant area. Our cabin stood facing the entrance so we saw it immediately. It looked like a gingerbread house out of a fairytale. Lush green trees grew around it giving privacy to the backyard.
The kids put out a blanket, ate sandwiches and relaxed on the lawn while Tim and I got our things arranged inside. The cabin had wall to ceiling windows throughout the living room and dining room flooding natural light into the space. Out the windows were shrubs and trees and the backyard had a patio with table and chairs. Upstairs looked down over the living room. A narrow walkway joined two bedrooms. Each bedroom slept two kids and our room was on the main floor. We had a lot of space in this home and were more than happy to spend the last part of our trip there.
Belia and I took a walk together to scout out the area. Many cabins were nestled in the wooded area - each one lovingly cared for with its' owners' special touches. Flowers were in bloom, butterflies sat on the pebbles ahead of us. A little further along was a small pool. The park was homey and relaxing.
After Belia and I looked around Tim and I sat at the restaurant patio - a stones throw from our cabin, and had a beer. We introduced ourselves to the restaurant owner/chef, a burly, gruff, but friendly man. He explained that he just took ownership of the restaurant. After some conversation we were surprised to find out that he knew Tim's uncle Rob, and had worked for him in the past.
We settled in to our new home and looked forward to the next day in Zeeland with Tim's aunt and uncle.
