Our flight was fine, we both slept most the way here. On our descent into Bangkok Mel commented "you know what it reminds me of?...Sim City" and that was the start to our trip! we got a free shuttle bus to Don Meuang Airport and then flew out of Bangkok into Phuket. Paul picked us up and took us back to his in time for a good nights sleep free from jet lag.
Saturday, we woke up and met Jim and Art (Pauls family). They gave us pork noodles as a traditional Thai breakfast. Paul then took us on his tour of South Phuket. We stopped at Nai Harn beach, a beautiful secluded beach away from tourists. The white sand and blue sea was highlighted by the surronding green trees. It was stunning! We stopped at a temple by the beach where Paul started his ancedotes of Buddhism. For example, if you had a bad dream you should go to the temple and see the monk and he will tell you what you need to do to get good luck (i.e. buy a coffin for someone who cannot afford one). We then went to Prom Thep Cape, the most southern part of Phuket where there was a lookout. We moved onto another lookout stopping at an elephant sancturary so Mel could feed the elephants! She was shocked at how quickly her 100 Baht worth of pineapple was eaten by the elephant. We came back to Paul house where is son made us watch ice age 4 for the second time! Jet lag started to kick in so we went up to Phukets Big Buddha. Its a massive white seated Buddha on top of a mountain.
Sunday - We went into Phuket Town to find the vegetarian festival Paul had been going on about some of the Thai people are put into a trance in the temple and then have a great big skewer-like poles pierced through their body...he was so right! We arrived just at the end of a parade where there were people on the back of fancy dressed cars with skewers (massive!) through their tongues, cheeks and ears!! it was nuts!! people following them gave out yellow string which links all the buddha's and people together. Once back in the car we went via the temple where they were put into their trance and went past the On On Hotel where some of The Beach was filmed (looked rather dodgy). Whilst in traffic we heard a lot of banging so we got out to see what was going on. it was another part of the parade where people were dressed in all white carrying festival boxes, while others threw fire crackers into them and the people just stood there getting hit by these fire crackers!!!! We then headed to Jims spa being cut up bu people on scooters, some of them had up to 5 people on and even dog...nut jobs!!! At Jim's spa we got thai massage, it was lush. Then we got dropped off at the beach - clear blue skies and seethrough blue water! the water was so warm! As it began to rain we went into a beach front restaurant for noodles and mango sticky rice.
Monday - we went on a boat trip to Phi Phi Island. They took us around the island first to sight see. It was beautiful! They then took us snorkling. The coral was a bit naff - apparently cause the sea temperature had risen tit has killed some of the coral. But the fish were amazing! So colourful and swam really close to us! There were millions of sea urchins too! We got back on the boat and docked at Phi Phi Island where we had lunch and a short walk around the market shops. We came across a less busy beach where there were loads of Thai boats waiting for customers! The views were amazing!!! We got back on the boat to Phuket shortly after lunch, three quarters of the way through the journey it started to rain and everyone ran downstairs. It wasn't heavy and the rain was warm so we wrapped our towels around us and stayed put - bit obvious who the British tourists were! Back at the house Jim cooked us a beautiful Thai meal! Yum!
