Although we had hoped to spend July 4th in Cody for the street party we decided to make tracks and head to Rapid City to see what it had to offer and as it stands...not all that much :( ...even the locals were a little confused to as to why we were there, didn't like to mention it was just a stop over to bigger and better things, this aside we still had a good time, plus they all dig Marv here, obviously have amazing taste...!
It was blistering hot so being out of the sun was impossible and being in the van was impossible, everything was just uncomfortable, at midday it probably reached 38 degrees.
For the July 4th celebrations they had a military band in the main square where bopping and making up words along to old war classics was the going thing, being extremely patriotic here they get their USA shirts on, pay all respects to veterans (rightly so!) and squeeze the national anthem at every given opportunity. Always feeling slightly out of place at this point as we know two words collectively we try and get involved a bit. It was a good atmosphere for the families.
Saving July 4th for a treat night we have a proper tea!!! With vegetables, chocolate, ice cream and everything, this really is exciting stuff after a whole lot of pasta, pasta and mooore pasta. Finding an old bar which used to be the old fire dept for the city, it looks cool, pretty busy, a bit sports bar like, again with a lot of USA shirt...this will do us! the treat was lovely followed by a stroll around the city. :)
