After a loooong overnight bus journey we arrive in the early hours to Trujillo...to find my bag had been stolen!! I handed them by bag ticket they handed me no bag.
Of course, just to add to the South American statistics. After many bus companies telling us to store both our bags (main luggage and day packs) underneath the coach for the 'safety of our belongings' I have now had my day pack taken by another 'ladron' (thief).
This ladron had made their way with my camera, watch, malaria tablets, a new bag bought for our Inca Trail and a few other personal items. Luckily, we had our passports and cash cards on us.
After getting angry with the bus company, who stood there counting three bags supposed to four for a good twenty minutes we decided to take it to the manager without any apology from the bus staff.
Refusing to go anywhere, we waited and waited till eventually we managed to speak with the manager, resulting with them compensating me with £100, free bus tickets and a letter for my insurance claim, not a bad outcome just now an annoying inconvenience.
I can only imagine my bag was handed to someone too dishonest and greedy to correct being given a bag that didn't belong to them. This or I had been had by the bus staff, who knows.
