The city just continued to get busier and busier as the day went on, however not stressful like London just packed but still obtaining a good and friendly atmosphere, even with police (policia) everywhere, hundreds on them with their guns and bullet proof vests on. We walked miles and miles around the city, again manage to get lost and then eventually find our hostel, feet killing!!
So, in just 24 hours of being in Mexico we have managed to get robbed, ok not quite at gunpoint or with my head pushed to the floor by Mexican bandits- thankfully, touch wood!- but money and a few of my things have been stolen from our room by housekeeping. Miffed right off!! We complained to the hostel but realistically we are never seeing any of it again. 500 peso, gone!!
Its only £20 but that would have lasted us two days :( Not expecting room service in a hostel we naively left the money unhidden amongst our things and that was enough for them to swipe it or assume it was a really large tip, 500 peso was the same amount we paid for our two nights stay so not likely to be a tip and they had rummaged through my bag to steel my old melted make-up, welcome to that really! Hate the thought of someone rummaging their way through our things.
Feeling way too annoyed about £20 I decided to release some anger and leave the housekeeping a little note. Short but straight to the point "LADRON!!' this means "THIEF!", if I was going to learn any Spanish that day that was it! Could have been a lot worse....! Good bye money and makeup. Taught us a valuable lesson from the off, anything of value needs to be extremely well hidden.
We console ourselves by having a taco teatime (carne taco que queso- i think...) steak and cheese tacos for 17 peso each, couldn't resist! Pauls on the Mexican food with McDonalds surrounding him everywhere, so impressed! Tacos and hot cakes so far, we are learning the menus :) :) Oh and I know 'Hablas Ingles? Na comprende' Do you speak English? I don't understand. Nothing is in English, at all, anywhere!!The language barrier has proved much harder than expected but being forced to learn it is pretty cool, should be able to string a sentence after two months.

lee sorry lost keep money on you money belt advice late! anyway sounds good so enjoy
Kim Paul took the cash out of his pocket to keep things separate in case anything happened out in the city, oh well, we know now not to be so trusting of the housekeepers we didn't think we had.
