The Paílón Del Diablo, or in English "Cauldron of the Devil" is a magnificent waterfall in the Rio Verde area, about half an hour from Banos. The Pailon Del Diablo is about 80 meters high and it's one of the most amazing waterfalls to visit in Banos.
You can visit the The Paílón del Diablo Waterfall on a special Chivas tour called Ruta de Las Cascadas for just $6 each. From Baños you can find many travel agencies offering the Chivas tours and vehicle renting, however, we managed to book all our tours through our hostel. Going there is about half a day trip in total. If you take a Chivas tour, the Chivas will make a few stops on the way, so you can take pictures as the way there is beautiful. Also when we went there, there was a chance to do Canopy and Bungee jumping on the way, we had a go on the canopy but gave the bungee a miss!!
There are two entrances to the waterfall, and they will take you to different places. The entrance fee to the The Paílón del Diablo waterfall is $1, 50. From the entrance you need to do a small hike to the waterfall. Both paths to the The Paílón del Diablo go through a semi-jungle, so the area is fresh and green.
Our tour gave us an hour dropping us to the newer entrance of the waterfall where you can stand right at the top. On route to the main viewing spot (see photo) we walked over their amazing newly made bridge which was shaky and slippy but all good fun. There is a standing area right next to the waterfall where you can reach out and get soaked if you wish or if you stay there long enough the wind will do that for you.
A great day out with tour included for just $6 (US) each, definitely a highlight!
