Ideas for travel budgeting.

In 2014 my partner and I decided to take a career break, book a round the world ticket and take to the road for 10 months. We already had a short list of countries we both wanted to see & when we booked the trip, lovely Andy from STA pointed out we could add 2 more countries for no extra money. So we did, we were off to China, Macau, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and America.

When we planned the trip we found no end of recommendations and reviews of where to go, what to see, where to stay and what camera to buy. But the one thing we really struggled with was how far our budget would stretch. We didn't know if we had enough money to last 9 months. We weren't sure what standard of living we could expect and whether our budget was realistic. We also found that whilst some people viewed a country as cheap, others thought it expensive. It just depending where else they had travelled and the type of travelling they do.

So we decided to put together a short blog to help others tackle to budgeting side of their trip. As well as some guidance of the current price of things, we'll give recommendations of free/low cost accommodation and attractions as well as the things we thought it was worth splurging on.
