Aim for Racial Acceptance, Not Racial Tollerence
No matter where you are, the felling when you meet a fellow malaysian seems overwhelming. When you are back home, we might not even talk if we had been put in the same room, but when you are away it takes u mere five minutes to hit it off as friends. the common topics of teh tarik, roti canai and nasi lemak seems to be a sure bet to be break the ice with a malaysian while away from home.
but why cant this be the same at home? is it the environment ? is it the preconceived notion that we are of different races. but how come all these barriers seem to be left at home when we leave for another country.
doesnt it seem funny? it evident that malaysians are all one and the same inside. but the environment that we subject ourselves to is the cause of many issues. This environment is not a rigid form, its what we make of it and how we perceive it to be. If you asked me racial tollerence is not what the world needs, its racial acceptance. In Malaysia, it is very possible, but small glitches need to be oiled out. Call me naive, but i know for sure that it is possible. May be not amongst all categories, but it sure can be a start if we did somethng about it.
Which other country insists in knowing your race and religion when you fill in any simple form? why ? doesnt being malaysian suffice ? such simple yet constant saggrigation is enrgrained in our minds since young. some things need change. i know most of you reading this would probably say "malaysia no hope la, see our politics, see our government"...thats a simple answer, everyone says tha. We just say it without even knowing the actual facts and backing of what we are trying to say. so why not try and change, not in a big way, somthing small yet very significant... Your SELF !
