Hello, again, Blogonauts!
For a few hours, it was touch-and-go, but as Toby predicted, today has been sunny here in Valencia, Spain. There are some attached photos to prove it.
I arrived yesterday after a smooth and jetting jaunt across the Atlantic, and a jerking nail-biter of a taxi ride to Toby's apartment. From my assessment, both means of conveyance traveled at close to the same speed, although the cab ride had a distinct lack of refreshements on offer.
Once I settled in, Toby showed me around the neighborhood for a bit, and we grabbed a late lunch, which in Spain is simply ... lunch. Dining is different here, in that the clocks and meal times seem to have lost all connection with one another. Spaniards eat very late ... so late, in fact, that dinner in Halifax and dinner in Valencia could easily happen at precisely the same moment, with no regard for the 5-hour time difference.
Today (Friday) we ambled about the city. Toby re-acquainted me with the vendors and victuals at his local market. And we climbed the Serranos Towers, a remnant of Renaissance city walls. We also wandered past a cascade of churches, many of which contain some amazing art. Of note, we stopped by the Col-legi of the Patriarch church, and then later found the St. Nicolas Museum/Church, which has been designated Valencia's version of the Sistine Chapel.
After today's tapas lunch (yes, it was mid-afternoon), we sauntered through Valencia's ceramics museum, which is housed in an ostentatiously ornate converted urban palace.
My return to Europe is going well, in spite of conditions elsewhere in the continent. You can see some photos in the attached album, named just the same as this blog entry.
Tomorrow, a bike ride is on the agenda ... the next link in this chain of events that I'm peddling.
Blog to you later!
