Trailor on Tour
Today we checked out of the hostel in Rarotonga and headed to the airport to try and get to Aitutaki, which we did by booking to fly with Air Rarotonga at 1530.
The flight took 50 minutes and we were met by the customary ukelele player!! We hadn't booked anywhere to stay, but got on a shuttle bus and ended up at Rino's Beach Bungalows, with a room with kitchen area, our own bathroom, 2 beds as well as a ceiling and pedestal fan! Oh and HOT water - hurrah.
For dinner we headed down to the wharf as we had been told that the Blue Nun Cafe was hosting the islands dance competition. For some reason Keren was expecting somthing like Come Dancing - not quite, although the island dancing was good to see.
Aitutaki atoll is a huge triangular lagoon, encompassing 21 uninhabited motu (islands), sand bars, coral ridges and masses of marine wildlife.
This is the place where I have felt most remote, but in a good way. We are on a little dot in the middle of the world's largest ocean and at night the stars are brilliant. I even saw my first shooting star on the way back from the dancing - perfect. S xx
