Quick update on Denmark... Han and I spent 2 days exploring copenhagen; frequenting museums, climbing 95m up the vor frelsers kirke to see the views of the city and across to sweden and going on a canal tour. As always we found THE most amazing patisserie/bakery, voted the best shop in copenhagen!! We had our first moment of budget chaviness in Denmark! Wanting to save money we decided to cook lots of pasta for lunch for our 8hr train journey from Odense to Berlin. However we encountered some problems... we had nothing to put the pasta in nor any cutlery to eat it with! Thus we stole plastic forks from the patisserie and brought one drink from McDonalds but asked for 2 cups and an extra lid- the guy did not look amused... These cups then served as our tupperware boxes. The most exciting part of our train journey was crossing the sea between denmark and germany when our train boarded a ferry for 45mins! We got off and explored, resisting urges to buy chocolate, makeup and alcohol at duty free...!!
We are now in berlin and loving it!! this city has exceeded all expectations and last night along with another 150 odd people we got very drunk sampling the city's legendary nightlife! To make things even better we probably drunk our body weight in free shots! woooooooo!! met some fantastic ppl from here there and everywhere and eventually arrived back in our hostel at 5am not knowing when we got to the club, nor what it looked like or what time we left... whoops! Fortunately we were with 2 irish guys, a guy from NY and an ozzy girl, however they were far from sober and we all boarded many trains and trams (without paying) in search of our hostel! Shockingly, Han can recount what half the men were wearing and ppls names- she is surprisingly observant with great memory skills when she's drunk even though she is so obtuse when sober! We took advantage of the free walking tour yesterday learning lots about berlins history and seeing sights such as the berlin wall, the brandenbury gate, hitlers bunker, checkpoint charlie and memorial sites. Our tour guide was fantastic- she was like a walking guidebook of the city!
We are staying in St Chrisopher's inn which is lovely, best hostel so far despite their recycled looking paper towel toilet roll! roommates are lovely too!! tonight we are off to a pay-as-you-feel winebar (making the most of berlins alcohol despite the copious amounts we drank last night!) We have one more day in berlin in which we must eat bratwurst, currywurst and explore berlins amazing train station before boarding our 2nd night train for krakow (this time we paid a little bit more for comfort but buying couchettes, learning from our cologne to copenhagen experience).
Hope you are all well and are having as much fun as we are! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
