Last night, I was asked by one of the women who work at the residence, to go to watch the flamenco dancing at the Corpus
Christi fair here in Granada. She was going to leave at midnight and I
was hesitant as I wasn´t sure how long they were going to stay out. She assured me that it would only be for a few hours as she had
to work at 8 in the morning. She brought two other female students
that live at the residence.
It was quite funny as they all spoke Spanish and only one could
speak some english. She would translate for me. I could understand
some, but they speak so fast.
She drove us to the fairgrounds. Firstly, she AMAZED me at how she got in
and out of a tight spot. Her parallel parking skills were
incredible. How do they do it?? Secondly, I´m surprised we made it there alive! I´m glad I had my seatbelt on as there were plenty of STOPS and GO´s along the way!
When we arrived, the sky was lit up with amusant rides and an
abundance of lights. There were so many people. Remember
this is MONDAY night at midnight. There were young and old enjoying the festivities. We headed straight to the Flamenco tent and
because she knew the head director, we got priority seats - front row.
The dancers definitely work hard as it shows in their dancing.
They sure can move their feet! I didn´t realize feet could move so fast!
After the 2 female and male dancers finished, another older lady
danced. I was told by one of the girls that she was, are you ready
for this, 80 years old! She moved and danced for over 20 minutes.
Isn´t that incredible?
Afterwards, we were invited backstage where the resident worker
told them that I was a Canadian photographer and they all wanted their
pictures taken. It was quite funny. We returned home in good time and
I had a chance to sleep in as my class is at 1 in the afternoon.
Today, I went to class and it seemed to go by quickly. I returned
to the residence and tried to have a siesta but just layed down without
sleeping. Afterwards, I went shopping for some souvenires but most of
the shops were closed. It turns out that for the week of Corpus
Christi, the shops only open for the mornings. I will have to get this
done sometime in the morning before Saturday!
There is some sort of event happening somewhere tomorrow at around
11, but I couldn´t understand the person that was telling me, in
particular where it was taking place. I will roam the streets tomorrow
and see if I can find anything of interest.
As for tonight, I´m going to have myself some homemade ice cream that they sell down the street. It´s the best in town!
