Cold shower to start the day as forgot to turn hot water switch on! A little milder today as sun breaking through. Yay!
Breaky of Pho Ga ( chicken noodle soup which all the Vietnamese eat or Pho Bo - pronounced Fur) or French Toast and Toasties. Checked out would have loved to have stayed longer at Sapa Rooms as really great spot. Today so different to yesterday as rain finally stopped. Awesome views from our room.
Cuong came to get us at 8.30am and we headed off to Bac Ha market about a 3 1/2 hour drive . Stopped a lot to take photos as scenery outstanding.
Arrived market- absolutely amazing - so much color. Many of the hill tribes come to the Sunday Market here each week to trade, buy and socialise. It was packed and huge. Areas for buying water buffalo, pigs, chickens, dogs, meat, clothes etc. It was fantastic.
Wayne and Lewis going mad with their cameras even Cuong got his out. They got some great shots of the people. If you come to Sapa this Sunday market is an absolute must. Flower Hmong, Black Hmong, and a load of other tribes.
Had lunch then grabbed time for a small bit of shopping. Mainly their wonderful colorful bags.Sun was out and were we're all stripped down to tshirts! After we had a look at a palace built by the French for the Hmong King in the area as part if their colonization a century ago. Interesting but not palatial.
Trip back to Lao Cai and the border with China - a bridge over the Red River. Then it was for a bite to eat for dinner at restaurant opposite the train station.
Overnight train left at 8.10pm. Older carriage than on way up and again Cuong in with the boys and Grandy, Poppy, Wayne, and Rob together. All hit the hay pretty early.
