Pantheon, Italy Oct 8, 2011 Jet lag finally did us in today. It's 7:00pm and we have just made it to the Pantheon. I'm glad we made it but my goodness were we wiped out today. Must be all the wine...
Rome, Italy Oct 7, 2011 We are off to the Colosseum and St Peters Basilica. So hard to describe. The Colosseum makes me want to see The Gladiator. Amazing to see in person what i have only seen in books and movies. Only negative are the aggressive vendors. Look, no means no as far as i am concerned
Italian Dinner, Italy Oct 7, 2011 After getting us lost we found the most amazing restaurant. A basket of bread, 1 litre of wine, two bowls of pasta, two cafe americanos and two dolci's later i am feeling a little queezy. We finally made it back to the hotel. Now sleep is calling my name! Buona notte!
Rome, Italy Oct 7, 2011 This evening we toured the Vatican museums at night (a special treat) and the highlight of course was the Sistine Chapel. I never knew that Michelangelo had a wicked sense of humor. Of the numerous scenes depicted i have to say the creation of the sun and the moon left no doubt in my mind how bawdy he was! What a privilege to see, not soon to be forgotten!
Rome, Italy Oct 7, 2011 At St Peter's Basilica in Vatican City. Are we really here?? This is surreal. I felt very emotional walking into the church. Michelangelos Pieta is no doubt the most most moving and beautiful sculpture i believe i have ever seen in my life. The Pope is in residence no doubt wondering what the Townsends are doing in Vatican City!! In the church also lie the bones of St Peter. Of course we wondered if that is really true and the best answer we got: definitely...
