We arrived in Arequipa and hurrah it was lovely and toasty warm! We checked into a lovely hostel and after spying the rooftop hammocks decided we would bury our heads in books for the afternoons and rome the streets in the morning and evenings! The main square was pretty awesome, think huge church, massive fountains and you get the picture! We frequently battled the goodness knows how many steps to reach the resturant at the top of one of the buildings just so we could sip a beer overviews of the square and the city! The only other activity to partake in was walking the Colca Canon (one of the biggest in the world I think?) but with the Inca Trail looming, tales of it being painstakingly hard, the idea we were being charged over the odds for a walk into a canyon to only potentially see wildlife we had already seen we took several steps back and landed into our hammocks again...a much better decision we think! And so began our 4 days of R&R before our return to Cusco!
We enjoyed sampling lots of resturants in the evening and landed on our feet when we found the BEST pancake house ever! We ate ourselves stupid, drank our new favourite drink of Cuba Libras and battled it out at board games whilst celebrating the birth of Amelie, Svens step sisters, baby! All in all a brilliant stay!
