Walking Tour of Moscow's Kolomenskoye Estate

From: £23.62

Duration: 3 hours

Category: Culture & History

On this walking tour through the Kolomenskoye Estate in Moscow, immerse yourself in Russia’s interesting royal history. Walk around the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Ascension Church, built in 1532, and enter the House of Peter the Great and the Colonel's Chamber Museum with your guide. Learn about the royal legends surrounding the estate's main events and admire the picturesque scenery.

Take a guided tour of Moscow’s Kolomenskoye Estate, a former royal estate situated in a large park just outside of Moscow’s city center near the town of Kolomna, from where the estate got its name. After meeting your guide near Moscow’s Red Square, take the metro to the Kolomenskoye Estate (fares included), one of the first places of human habitation in the area of modern Moscow -- even older than Russia's capital itself! Learn how during the reign of Tsar Mikhail Fedorovich Romanov in the 17th century, Kolomenskoye became the favorite summer residence of the tsar’s family.

See the oldest building on the estate, the stunningly white, UNESCO World Heritage-listed Church of the Ascension, featuring one of the first stone-roofed churches known to Russian architecture. Built in 1532 to honor the future first Russian tsar, Ivan the Terrible, this magnificent building is perched on a hill overlooking the banks of the Moskva River. Listen to your guide's stories as you walk around the magnificent temple and enjoy views of the landscape below.

Next, follow your guide to the 18th-century house of Peter the Great, the only memorial museum devoted to the life and reign of this famous Russian tsar and reformer. Tour the museum and learn all about Peter the Great before continuing to the Colonel's chambers museum integrated in the beautiful main building named Front Gate (included). Immerse yourself in royal times as your guide tells you interesting information and stories about historical Russia.
