Our Premier Coach arrived in Sydney after an overnight 12 hour trip from Byron Bay - fortunately we had a few remains from the cookies we had acquired from Nimbin which sent us into the land of nod for the majority of the journey! Disembarking the coach at 6am on a Sunday morning in a dazed mood with no chance of checking into our accomodation yet we decided to take an early morning stroll around the empty city to check out the Darling Harbour and what it had to offer when everything would eventually be open. Being quite tired we decided to chill out for the rest of the day in the picturesque botanical gardens with Chris chasing ducks and Gav chasing men!
The next day feeling a lot more revitalised we headed out early doors for some proper sight seeing. We headed into the main city and towards the Harbour Bridge and Opera House although on the way we were distracted for an hour by a group of office workers playing a game of 5-a-side soccer (also known as football!) but it was more like watching a group of mentally and physically retarded people kick each others shins rather than the ball - it was pure comedy! We eventually managed to drag oursleves away from the hilarity and made our way to the Harbour Bridge. Not being able to afford the Bridge Walk (costing $200 - yes we are looking for sympathy and any donations upon our return will be gladly accepted!) we somehow managed to dig deep into our pockets and pulled together $9 to climb one of the viewing towers to take in the somewhat stunning views of the city sky line which was aided on the day by beautiful sunshine and blue skies. We then had a walk across the bridge footpath looking up enviously at the bridge climbers thinking "if only".........!! It was then a small walk across Circular Bay to the Opera House which we both agreed was less impressive than The Gordon Craig Theatre in Stevenage - of course we jest as it was amazing but a little too 70s in its architecture for our liking! Upon returning to our hostel that afternoon we bumped into Liza (yep that one from Surfers and Byron) and went for a sly early evening beverage with her and her friend Sandra and planned out the evening as we were to reunite with our Fraser Island "Team 2" Yanky buddies that night. The evenings reunion became highly emotional and very messy, very quickly - and to be honest Gav even cried! The big girls blouse!
The next morning we were rudely awoken at 10:30am by a knock on the door but with both of us struggling to recollect much from the night we decided not to answer just in case we had indecently exposed ourselves (not that theres much to expose!) and been tracked down by the police! However, fortunately enough after receiving a text message later that day we realised we had been hunted down by our ginger stalker Loz - again!
Our next oppurtunity for sight seeing was the next day and was to the infamous Blue Mountains which is an hours trip out of Sydney. Thinking we had escaped the dreaded Oz Experience bus for the last time imagine our sheer horror when we were confronted by one that was our transportation into the Blue Mountains! Relunctantly we jumped on with Loz and Liza joining us and still reeling from the effects the night previous and knowing what happened to young ginge on the last Oz bus we thought it was best to sit as far away from the sick boy as possible! The first step on our day tour was to see some big ass wild kangaroos but unfortunately the myth that they box with big red gloves on is not true and all they do is hop - damn Skippy! It was then onto the Blue Mountains themselves and a chance to experience some quite spectacular views and being such a clear day we were able to see for miles upon miles.......................
