We decided we did have enough time to go to Ghent to see the castle Merina wanted (although it would be closed when we got there), so we had a leisurely walk back to the trains through street and parks.
Ghent was on the way back to Brussels, so not out of the way at all. The tram info lady was really helpful and we got a tram up close to the castle, but had to walk past some other neat churches to get there. The Gravensteen castle was cool - just a big hunk of castle right in the middle of a moat in the middle of a city. We wandered around the outside of the castle and looked at some of the houses around there too before finding a place to have supper.
We decided on traditional Belgian fries (just fries with mayo) and I also got a Currywurst sausage. Tasty.
We took another leisurely stroll back through some buildings back to to the tram to get back to the train station. Back in Brussels we figured out the tram ticket system and got tickets to use. Except the bus we wanted didn't come for 20 minutes, so we ended up walking back to the hotel (seeing a few street musicians on the way). We'll use the tram tickets tomorrow.
Checked in finally - his place actually has an elevator, so no more suitcases and stairs! He room is really nice and completely private. Is gonna be a great place to stay. But early morning again tomorrow.
